Deer Park Junior High's Lian Kiefer finds himself facing a tall task in trying to get past Bondy's Exavion Matthews during the 7A Silver title contest Saturday. In a San Jacinto Invitational seventh grade A Silver bracket where just six points spelled the difference in four contests, the championship game was as tight as they come.
"I was excited. I'll take a loss like that anytime as long as we grow from it. That game right there is what we needed. We'll grow from that game. It's our best loss all year. That's what's the tournament's for," Deer Park seventh grade coach Coy Cromeens said. The Fawns are kicking themselves for missing one lousy free-throw attempt just before their 8-0 game-ending run. The Patriots meanwhile wished they hadn't missed two free-throw attempts when the lead was still somewhat comfortable at 51-44.
