An Oak Park man surrendered to DuPage County authorities after being charged with shooting at a woman as she drove in a vehicle in Downers Grove earlier this summer.

An Oak Park man is being held in DuPage County Jail on a $1 million bond, charged with shooting several times at a vehicle earlier this summer in west suburban Downers Grove that had someone inside.

Douglas Thigpen, 36, of the 900 block of South Humphrey Avenue, in Oak Park, appeared in bond court in DuPage County Wednesday before Judge Margaret O’Connell. Thigpen would need to post bail of $100,000 – 10% – to be released from custody, according to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.Thigpen is charged with felony aggravated discharge of a firearm – directed at a person or occupied vehicle. A warrant had been issued for his arrest.

According to the release, on June 9 at approximately 5:46 a.m., officers from the Downers Grove Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the 5700 block of Walnut Avenue. Following an investigation, it is alleged that a woman and Thigpen were involved in a verbal altercation, and Thigpen got into his vehicle and drove away. The woman was following in her vehicle.
