West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins will be suspended for part of the upcoming season and will have his salary reduced — but won’t be fired — as punishment for anti-gay slurs he made in a radio interview earlier this week, according to reports.
Huggins will sit out the first three games of the 2023-24 season. He will also have his contract amended to include a $1 million reduction in pay from his salary of $4.15 million, and must undergo sensitivity training.
West Virginia president Gordon Gee and athletics director Wren Baker announced the sanctions in a joint statement, in which they called Huggins’ comments “inexcusable.”
