Ted Kord is a different kind of Blue Beetle.

The movie references both Ted Kord and Dan Garrett, the first two Blue Beetles, but keeps the focus on Jaime Reyes' journey as the new Blue Beetle. However, Ted Kord's legacy plays a prominent role, with his daughter helping Jaime and his family, showing them Ted's secret layer, and using his superhero gadgets.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant for Blue Beetle, Boutte shared a Ted Kord Easter egg that some fans may have missed. He revealed why one of the suits was missing and what some of the details meant for Ted's time as a hero. Boutte also teased how Ted Kord could differentiate himself from Jaime as a hero. One thing, the little Easter egg in there that I think some people caught but people missed was you see the mannequins and then you see one of them is empty, and that's because Ted Kord had it. But then there was also the fact that it had the pillow on it because he had gained some weight, so that was lean to fat Ted Kord. There were a few things in there for that, and that was just something that I know that we will probably be seeing more of that down the line.
How Ted Kord Can Establish Himself As A Different Kind Of Blue Beetle Blue Beetle is Jaime Reyes' origin story without question, but it also does a good job of setting up a story for Ted Kord. Having been missing for years, he leaves his daughter behind as she fights to protect his legacy from her aunts' corruption and greed. Ted Kord is thought to be dead. However, a final message transmitted at the end of the movie changes everything.
By introducing Ted Kord's sister and daughter, Blue Beetle has already set up key differences between the two Blue Beetles. While Jaime Reyes' family was involved from the start, Ted Kord seemed to keep his loved ones out of his need to become a hero. The age difference could also set up an interesting difference between the characters, along with Ted's lack of powers.
