Four state lawmakers, two Democrats and two Republicans, have affiliated with the centrist Forward Party while staying members of their parties' caucuses.
Forward Party founder Andrew Yang, who ran unsuccessful campaigns as president and New York City mayor candidate, said that political polarization is rendering state legislatures ineffective “because people are more concerned about scoring points and the day-to-day cycle of tribal tit-for-tat than on delivering for the people.”
Neither Gaydos nor Brown spoke at the Capitol event, but Williams said the things voters want, such as good jobs and schools, are not Democratic or Republican issues. “I refuse to be bullied or intimidated by an ideology that, frankly, doesn’t represent the interests of my people. I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or not,” Williams said. “You will not override the will of the people.”
Boscola, known for her willingness to buck her party on votes, said the political discourse in Harrisburg is only getting worse.
