Biden's comments came while answering questions from reporters following his announcement of a new $33 billion supplemental aid request for Ukraine, and while White House press secretary Jen Psaki frequently fields questions about the options, the president's answer marked his first comments on the subject in months.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters on Wednesday that Biden was"getting closer" to eliminating up to $50,000 in debt for American borrowers, but the president claimed to be mulling a smaller figure. "I am considering dealing with some debt reduction," he responded when asked about Schumer's comments."I am not considering $50,000 debt reduction, but I'm in the process of taking a hard look at whether or not there are going to be additional debt forgiveness, and I'll have an answer on that in the next couple of weeks.""That allowed people to write off debt if they engaged in pubic service," he stated.
