Biden Could Enact Student Loan Relief Through Executive Action
While it is possible that Congress could make changes to Biden’s plans to include additional student loan relief, many student loan borrower advocacy groups and congressional Democrats have been urging Biden to use executive action to provide relief to student loan borrowers by extending the pause again on student loan payments and cancelling student debt.
“When I talk to student loan borrowers… one thing is painfully clear: the student loan system is broken,” said Senator Murray in a statement accompanying the release of her proposal. “It is ruining lives and holding people back. Borrowers are struggling with rising costs, struggling to get their feet back under them after public health and economic crises, and struggling with a broken student loan system... We can fix it.
