President Joe Biden plans to nominate Jeffrey Cummings and LaShonda Hunt for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

President Joe Biden departs the White House on Jan. 13, 2023, in Washington, DC.

More lower court judges have been confirmed during the first year of his presidency than any other since the Kennedy administration. However, Biden and Senate Democrats’ efforts to nominate judges in the South and among states with two Republican senators have stalled. A nominee Biden brought forward in December, Matthew Brookman for the US District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, had the support of the state’s pair of Republican senators as well.

Prior to working for a law firm, Delaney, Biden’s intended nominee for the 1st US Circuit Court of Appeals, was the attorney general of New Hampshire from 2009 to 2013 and legal counsel to the governor of New Hampshire from 2006 to 2009. He had also served in a number of legal roles at the New Hampshire Department of Justice since 1999.
