President Biden on Wednesday said the potential for chemical warfare in the conflict in Ukraine represented “a real threat.”
Mr. Biden was asked about the threat by reporters as he departed the White House Wednesday morning for his trip to Brussels for emergency meetings.of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the European Union and the Group of Seven leading industrial countries to discuss deterrence efforts, humanitarian relief and the campaign of sanctions against Russia.
According to U.S. officials and documents viewed by The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Biden is preparing to announce sanctions on more than 300 members of the Russian State Duma, the lower house of parliament, as soon as Thursday.
