The biggest question for Newsom is whether Biden decides to run for re-election in 2024, as he's. If Biden does seek a second term, Newsom won't run. If he doesn't, the situation becomes less clear.
Conventional wisdom says Newsom won't run against Harris, a fellow California politician, if she makes a run for the presidency in 2024 or 2028. . In fact, Bakari Sellers, a Democrat close to Harris who served as a top surrogate for her in 2020, cautioned Newsom against doing so — evidence that a Newsom-Harris matchup in the future is inside the realm of possibility.
