We’ve never seen bar glasses like the ones at Meyboom Brasserie in Dallas.
, owners Jeff Karetnick and April Segovia were tangled in two years of construction delays, parking restrictions and health inspections. It’s not sexy stuff, these first-time bar owners learned.and moved instead into a place with a wraparound porch three-quarters of a mile south, in the thick of Lowest Greenville.
“We have had a fair amount of Belgians come in,” Karetnick says, “But for a lot of people, it’s a new experience.”, Dallas drink expert Kevin Gray samples five beers at Meyboom with Karetnick and me. “You can drink beers literally brewed at monasteries by monks,” Gray says. “You can also drink beers across a range of styles, from incredibly light and refreshing and zesty to really rich and deep and dark and alcoholic. I do think Belgian beers offer a lot for beer drinkers.”One of Meyboom’s educational moments is the vessel the Kwak Pale Ale is poured in. Rather than a pint, Kwak is served in a glass hanging on a wooden stand.
This beer smells of vinegar — it’s a love-it-or-hate-it drink, as are some of the others on the menu. Karetnick thinks Duchesse de Bourgogne might be a good suggestion for those who like sour beers. It might even be a good fit for wine drinkers. Despite the tart start, Gray found it to be thicker and creamier than expected.The bar sells a variety of fries, or frites, including some with truffle oil.
