McCabe’s legacy also includes co-founding the New Jersey Emergency Medical Services Task Force as a result of the 9/11 attacks.
Friends, family and co-workers joined with police officers, firefighters and EMS crews from across the state Friday morning to pay their final respects to Mickey McCabe, the founder of McCabe Ambulance and co-founder of the New Jersey State EMS Task Force.at the age of 76 of complications from the lung disease he suffered as a result of working “on the pile” at the World Trade Center site after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
McCabe founded his ambulance service in 1973 and built it into a business that answers more than 25,000 calls per year, including 9-1-1 for Bayonne, backup 9-1-1 for Hoboken, 9-1-1 call screening for both municipalities, mutual aid for neighboring communities in Hudson County, and emergency response to the New Jersey Turnpike and Bayonne Bridge.
