A cold front from Canada is expected to dive down into the Bay Area next week, bringing rain and and the coldest weather of the season so far.
The latest weather models show that the storm will not be as wet as originally forecast, but meteorologists said at least some light rain is expected.
"The rain is still set to start coming in very early Tuesday morning, lasting through Wednesday evening," Sarah McCorkle, a meteorologist with the weather service, told SFGATE on the phone."As far as rain totals go, it has diminished a lot from what we saw a week ago. For most of the Bay Area we’re looking at a tenth of inch."
Just south of the Bay Area, the Santa Cruz Mountains could see up to a quarter of an inch, McCorkle said. Even light rain is great news for the water-starved Bay Area, but the cold temperatures triggered by this storm will be the bigger story of this system. The chilly air will be pushed into the region by northwest winds associated with the system, and Wednesday night into Thursday morning could bring the coldest temperatures the region has seen so far this season.
"Expect the coldest air of the season so far to arrive from mid to late week," the weather service warned in its forecast.
