Oakland is preparing to commemorate Too Short by renaming a street after him.

Born Todd Anthony Shaw, Too Short moved to Oakland from Los Angeles as a teenager, where he attended Fremont High School on the same stretch of Foothill Boulevard that will soon bear his name. “I remember when he used to be out on the streets selling his cassettes. Then one day, he became a star," Gallo told SFGATE.
Too Short says that this influence came from an existing foundation, laid out before his time by Bay Area funk, soul and gospel artists and groups like Walter Hawkins, Sly and the Family Stone and Marvin Holmes.
