Newborn with irreperable heart defect dies after family relocates to Houston for hope of surgery
The family moved to Houston in February, where the mother Alexis stayed at the Ronald McDonald House while she awaited her due date.
She was scheduled for a C-section on April 5. Their son was born a few days early April 2 and was put on a breathing tube April 7, while surgeries were scheduled. But on April 12, Juan and Alexis met with a few cardiologists, the ventricle team and a cardiothoracic surgeon and learned that their son was not a candidate for surgery. Due to his pulmonary vein placement, it was irreparable and surgeries would have caused him pain and could have been potentially fatal.
Their family was given the option to make their son comfortable and take him off of the machines, keeping him alive and allowing their family members to meet him before they continued.“Thank you all for the support we have received and continued prayers throughout this tough time,” Juan said. The family posted on their GoFundMe asking for support and donations as they arrange their son's funeral.
