San Diego State standout was 2021 Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year
A hamstring injury kept San Diego State defensive end Cameron Thomas out of the Senior Bowl. The injury limited him at the NFL Combine and still lingered at SDSU’s Pro Day.
The 6-foot-4, 267-pound Carlsbad High alum is the first defensive end the Aztecs have had drafted since 1995, when Jamal Duff was selected in the sixth round by the New York Giants. Immediately after he was selected, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. noted Thomas’ conference-leading statistics before saying “he is productive, he has got a relentless motor, he is versatile and he has modeled his game after J.J. Watt, who he is now teammates with.”
