AvatarTheWayOfTheWater fans are reeling over Sigourney Weaver's performance as 14-year-old Kiri, with some saying it's the best of her career! 'She's transcendent.'
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Avatar: The Way of Water. As the buzz surrounding Avatar: The Way of Water continues, fans are reeling on Twitter over Sigourney Weaver's performance as the teenage Kiri. 13 years after the release of James Cameron's first Avatar, the sequel is finally now playing in theaters. The follow-up film, which has been met with rave reviews from audiences, follows Jake Sully and Neytiri as they travel to new regions of Pandora to keep their family safe.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY While many fans are praising the world-building and jaw-dropping visuals of Avatar: The Way of Water, others have zeroed in on Weaver's performance as Kiri. Weaver is now 73 years old, but Kiri is only around 14 in the film, with some viewers expressing disbelief that the veteran actor is able to pull off playing the younger character so well.
In Avatar: The Way of Water, Kiri is shown to have a particularly strong connection with Eywa, the collective consciousness of Pandora and the Na'vi's deity. When swimming in the reefs with other members of the Metkayina clan, Kiri quickly develops a close connection with the underwater life and later expresses to Jake that she can hear Eywa's "mighty" heartbeat.
Many questions remain about Kiri's mystical connection to Eywa that will hopefully be answered in Avatar 3 or its two subsequent sequels, which are expected to release in 2026 and 2028. It's also unexplained why Kiri has a sudden seizure after connecting with the Spirit Tree, with the episode described as some type of frontal lobe epilepsy.
