As summer wraps up and school begins, the total death count of students from fentanyl poisoning this summer continues to rise.
He marks the fourth student in the school district to die from fentanyl this summer. Two 15-year-old victims and a 17-year-old were from Lehman and Johnson high schools.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, fentanyl is 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine, making it a major contributor to fatal and non-fatal overdoses in the United States.
