After inauspicious debut, Atascocita QB Zion Brown grows into leadership role
Atascocita junior QB Zion Brown, thrown into the varsity fire as a freshman, has emerged as a leader for the Eagles as they begin district play.Rain began to hit Zion Brown’s helmet and would trickle to his hands to make it difficult to throw the football in his first start at quarterback for Atascocita.
Brown made his first start due to regular starter Gavin Session violating team rules and Brown only played one quarter. He’s the only freshman quarterback to start a varsity game during Atascocita coach Craig Stump’s tenure with the Eagles. With more confidence and a senior-led team, Brown was 5-2 as a starter and being named the District 21-6A Newcomer of the Year. Atascocita advanced to the Class 6A Division I Region III final before losing 44-20 to eventual state champion North Shore.This season, the junior signal-caller has Atascocita 2-1 entering district play.
