Astros second baseman Jose Altuve did not play on Saturday against the Angels after he “felt something in his oblique” during an awkward swing on Friday night, according to Astros manager Dusty Baker.
Altuve did not require an MRI on his abdominal area, which is where the oblique muscles are located. The Astros, though, would prefer a cautious approach with their star second baseman, who made his season debut last month after undergoing surgery for a broken thumb in late March. Baker said Altuve is also unlikely to play on Sunday in the series finale against the Angels, but the Astros hope to get him back for their road trip to Toronto and Cleveland this week.
Right fielder Kyle Tucker was not in the lineup on Saturday, either, but is healthy. Baker said he simply wanted to give Tucker a day off prior to playing four consecutive games on the turf field in Toronto.
