Astros catcher Jason Castro to retire after 12 years in majors

Jason Castro, a face of Houston’s rebuild that returned to reap its rewards, announced his retirement on Friday afternoon after a 12-year major league career. “Over the last 15 years of pro ball, I have been blessed with many incredible opportunities and have met so many people along the way that helped me achieve more than I could have ever imagined,” Castro wrote on Twitter.

Houston chose Castro with the 10th overall pick in the 2008 draft. He spent nine of his 12 major league seasons with the Astros and caught the third-most games in franchise history.
