Anchorage police are alerting the public about a series of robberies involving Facebook Marketplace. According to a press release, some people have been using the online platform to sell shoes, but instead of delivering the goods, they have been robbing the buyers at gunpoint.

Renee Oistad, a spokesperson for the Anchorage Police Department, said that this is a dangerous situation that could escalate. Oistad said that no injuries have been reported so far. Still, she advised people to follow some safety tips when buying or selling items on Facebook Marketplace or any other online platform. These tips include:
Don’t go alone to the transaction. Bring someone with you, or let someone else know where you are going and who you are meeting. Have a plan to contact them after the deal is done.
