“American Song Contest,” one of the most hotly anticipated TV talent shows to come around in quite some time, premieres on NBC at 6 p.m. March 21.
The live music competition is hosted by Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson and features acts from every state as well as five territories and Washington D.C. All told, there will be 56 acts taking part in this reality competition television series, which is based on the popular Eurovision Song Contest. The acts will each be performing an original song, as opposed to the covers usually featured on these types of talent shows. Like with Eurovision, it is the the song and the state it represents — not the musical act — that is being voted on.
The series features several already well-established stars, including some that have sold millions of albums during their careers. Performers include Jewel, Michael Bolton, Macy Gray and Allen Stone The series is set to run 8 p.m. Mondays through May 9. There are three rounds of competition — qualifying, semi-finals and finals — and viewers can vote for their favorites.Here’s a break down of the contestants, listed alphabetically by state/territory:Jewel — Multiplatinum-selling singer-songwriter known for such hits as “Who Will Save Your Soul.”Tenelle — Her 2017 debut album, “For the Lovers,” topped the Billboard reggae chart.
