Advanced Micro Devices Inc. AMD officially launched its next-generation data-center central processing unit at its Data Center & AI Technology Premiere event in San Francisco on Tuesday. Shipping now, AMD’s fourth generation of Epyc data-center CPU, codenamed “Bergamo,” is intended to compete with Nvidia Corp.’s NVDA Grace Hopper data-center CPU. AMD claims the 128-core per socket CPUs excel at energy efficiency while using fewer servers.
