It's the first time that the Trooping the Colour parade will honor King Charles.
This year's Trooping the Colour festivities will honor King Charles III for the first time ever.
The annual parade celebrates the birthday of the reigning monarch every June . Today's landmark event also includes another major royal milestone: the first time that the monarch joins the parade by riding in on horseback. The last time Queen Elizabeth II rode in on horseback was at the 1986 parade. Trooping the Colour will see the military procession migrate from Buckingham Palace, down The Mall to Horseguard's Parade. Senior members of the royal family—such as Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Kate, Princess Anne, and more—will follow the procession either by horseback or carriage. Finally, the event will conclude with the family appearing on the Buckingham Palace balcony as they witness the RAF fly-past.
