Alex Lee spoke with SFGATE to discuss whether, if it were up to him, we must all live in 'social housing flats' and 'eat the bugs.'
Lee's tweet has been viewed 2.9 million times as of Tuesday morning. The lawmaker spoke with SFGATE on Tuesday to discuss whether, if it were up to him, we'd all be mandated to live in social housing andSFGATE: So, in your scenario, are any of the services — a public banking account, the awesome public school, the green public transit or the social housing flat — mandatory for everyone? In my hypothetical future, these services are not mandatory, no.
Nothing is mandatory. It is interesting that the response from libertarians and conservatives is that what I was proposing was totalitarian. I think they’re projecting their own conception of the world a bit.Lee: Yes, they all exist in the countries I mentioned, and I never said in my tweet that they don’t exist. A lot of people are simply projecting totalitarianism because that's how they conceive of the world. Whenever someone says there should be great public transit, or great public schools, the right screams that everything else will be gone. It's a projection of their own right-wing insecurities.
