Alameda County prosecutors have charged three people in the fatal shooting of security guard and former police officer Kevin Nishita, according to Oakland police officials.
In a social-media post Wednesday, police said two suspects were in custody and that officers were working to find a third suspect.
Oakland police Chief LeRonne Armstrong will hold a press conference at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at police headquarters to share more information, police said. The district attorney’s office did not release additional details Wednesday. Kevin Nishita, a security guard and former Bay Area police officer, was killed guarding a news crew in Oakland.
Nishita was a former police officer hired by security company Star Protection Agency to protect a KRON-TV news crew as it reported on a store robbery in downtown Oakland. He was Nov. 27, 2021 in the 300 block of 14th Street when an assailant tried to steal the crew’s camera equipment.
