Alabamians making the area median income are much more likely to find a rental in their price range, according to the report. There are 101 affordable rentals for every 100 people earning at the median income for their area. Alabama’s real median income for 2020 was $54,393,Mississippi, West Virginia, South Dakota, Kentucky and Alabama ranked highest in the nation for the number of affordable housing units statewide.

He said funding the state’s housing trust fund is his group’s top priority for increasing affordable units.
