State law allows a 60-day grace period for license renewals for those who need to renew during the shutdown. “We understand that it may cause an inconvenience to some citizens that will not have full access of the Driver License Division’s resources and capabilities, but we assure everyone the result will be impressive, providing significant improvements for both citizens as well as driver license employees across the state,” ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor said.

Registered voters may also obtain a free photo voter ID card during the closures. To receive a free Alabama photo voter ID card, people must complete the application and meet the following requirements:
