Alabama cornerback Eli Ricks, who transferred from LSU after last season, was arrested over the weekend in Mississippi.
Jones County includes the city of Laurel and Interstate 59, which runs between Tuscaloosa and New Orleans.after last season. The California native played at IMG Academy in Florida and was a top-15 prospect nationally as ranked by 247 Sports in 2020. He earned Associated Press third-team All-America honors as a freshman at LSU but his sophomore season ended when he underwent shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum last October.
Alabama coach Nick Saban said at the start of spring practice in March that Ricks was a “real positive addition for our team” but he hadafter his shoulder and was working to regain it. Ricks played with Alabama’s second-team defense in its spring game April 16, with Saban later saying Ricks was part of a three-way competition to start alongside sophomore Kool-Aid McKinstry and senior Khyree Jackson.
“The biggest thing for Eli is learning the system,” Saban said after the spring game. “He’s like a guy that just got here, so for him to be able to learn the system -- and sometimes it’s even more difficult for guys that’s played in a system. So they knew a system, now they’ve gotta sort of enturbulate some of the things that they did to some of the things that we’re doing, and we call it something different. So you’ve gotta work through sort of some of that learning curve with them.
The arrest is the second known this offseason for Alabama’s program after defensive coordinator Pete Golding was
