Alabama basketball coach Nate Oats has worked to be there for his players this week. But he's needed people and places to turn to as well since player Darius Miles was arrested and charged with capital murder
Oats described the events of the past few days as shocking when asked how he has been processing everything.
The shooting has led to an unprecedented week for Alabama. While processing the events of Sunday, the team also had a basketball game for which to prepare Tuesday against Vanderbilt. Alabama won 78-66. "This wasn’t covered in the ‘Coaching Basketball’ class back in college," Oats said on the pregame radio broadcast."This is one you’ve got to get a really good feel for where your guys are at. Even going into the team meetings, you’ve got to kind of play it a little bit by ear and see where they’re at, where their heads are at, and kind of go from there."Oats got a call Sunday morning and received news of the shooting.
The Crimson Tide went through what Oats called the Vanderbilt personnel day-one edit, and Alabama later practiced.
