ALA-Queen Creek bounced back from last week's loss to Queen Creek in a win over ALA-Gilbert North.

With just under three minutes remaining in the first half, ALA-Queen Creek quarterback Drew Cowart jogged onto the field, staring down the prospect of a second-straight loss. Not only that, but a blowout.

With that, everything flipped. ALA-Queen Creek wouldn’t allow another point in a 40-19 win that looked much easier than it was. Here are four takeaways from the game:Among last year’s eight Open Division teams, ALA-Queen Creek carried perhaps the least hype into 2022. “I think we are,” coach Ty Detmer said when asked if this team is as good as last year’s group. “But losing to Queen Creek probably knocks you out . That's okay. All we can do is win the games we have in front of us.”In the first half, NAU commit Adam Damante gouged ALA-Queen Creek’s defense. He scored once with his legs and twice through the air, showing off his strong rapport with receiver Brandon Phelps, who badly burned a corner on a double move for ALA-Gilbert North’s second touchdown.

In contrast to many running back duos, Jensen and Agne are similar in rushing style. Both are powerful, aggressive backs who are comfortable between the tackles. Jensen also provided the lone highlight of the first 20 minutes for ALA-Queen Creek — this time on defense. He came off the edge to force a fumble that teammate Briggs Lunt scooped up and took 50 yards to the house.
