Air New Zealand will conduct a voluntary check of international travelers' weights through June to study weight load and distribution on its airplanes.

Digital scales will be set up at the entrance of select gate lounges at Auckland International Airport. Passengers’ weight data will be submitted as part of the survey, but will not be visible on the agent’s screen, according to Air New Zealand. “We know stepping on the scales can be daunting. We want to reassure our customers there is no visible display anywhere. No one can see your weight – not even us. It’s completely anonymous,” Alastair James, load control improvement specialist for Air New Zealand, said in a statement, according to reports. “It’s simple, it’s voluntary, and by weighing in, you’ll be helping us to fly you safely and efficiently, every time.
