The action was part of a flurry of vetoes and bill signings that span from issues like campaigns and elections to protecting children from abuse.

As Republican-led states increase anti-trans laws, states with Democrats in power are moving to expand healthcare and civil rights for transgender people. Oregon is likely to pass a bill that would expand insurance coverage to include electrolysis for hair removal and Adam's apple reduction surgery. School officials won't have to stop using transgender students' preferred names or pronouns following Gov.

Hobbs wrote in a May 19 veto letter that Senate Bill 1001, which passed the state Senate and House on Republican-only votes, was part of"harmful legislation directed at transgender youth" passed by politicians across the country and she would veto anything that"aims to attack and harm children."
