A bevy of legislation passed by the Indiana State Legislature during its 2023 session will take effect on July 1.
Here is a look at some of the laws that will impact healthcare, law enforcement, education and more in the Hoosier State:, authored by State Senators Ed Charbonneau, R-Valparaiso, and Justin Busch, R-Fort Wayne, will ban noncompete agreements, which bar employees who leave their jobs from working in similar positions for a certain period of time, for primary care physicians in Indiana.
A medical group for an Indianapolis hospital has taken the unusual step of eliminating noncompete clauses from its physicians’ contracts, allowing them to join rival health care systems without repercussion.Senate Enrolled Act 77 is a boon for Indiana weapon collectors and martial arts enthusiasts. The law makes throwing stars — defined as “a throwing-knife, throwing-iron, or other knife-like weapon with blades set at different angles” — legal in Indiana except on school property.
