Nearly 50 Venezuela migrants were flown from Texas to Florida to Martha's Vineyard last week in a political move by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Neither DeSantis's nor Abbott's offices immediately returned a request for comment on Monday. Salazar didn't address Abbott's actions at the news conference on Monday, and he didn't name DeSantis — though he said the sheriff's office has already identified"persons of interest" in their new investigation.
Lawyers for Civil Rights, an advocacy group in Boston, has also asked the federal government and Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey to formally open criminal investigations, the group said in a news release on Saturday. As much outrage as the stunts have sparked, some advocates say the governors are inadvertently helping immigrants.
