Rihanna's new song just got a release date — and it's *much* sooner than we thought.
have recorded new music for the upcomingsequel, we can all take a deep breath of contented relief. As of yesterday, it has been confirmed that at leastnew Rihanna song will appear on the highly-anticipated movie soundtrack — and it’ll be out sooner than we thought.Twitter account yesterday night.
According to a press release, the new song is called “Lift Me Up” and was “written as a tribute to the extraordinary life and legacy of Chadwick Boseman.” Rihanna co-wrote the song alongside Ryan Coogler, Ludwig Göransson , and Tems ; it was apparently recorded across five different countries. Coming out through Rihanna’s personal record label Westbury Road, in partnership with Roc Nation, Def Jam Recordings, and Hollywood Records, “Lift Me Up” is the official lead single for theoriginal soundtrack . More excitingly, it’s being described as the start of “the next era of Rihanna’s iconic career.”
Speaking about the track, songwriter Tems said, “After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life.” Continuing, she added, “I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them. Rihanna has been an inspiration to me, so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.
As for what Rihanna is conveying, we’ll just have to wait and see. What will it sound like? I don’t know. I, for one, would love another club-ready dance track from the Bajan Princess. But if Tems’ own contribution to the soundtrack is anything to go by, this comeback Rihanna track could just as easily be a contemplative ballad. Either way, I’ll be listening.Over the last few weeks, murmurings of Rihanna’s music career have begun to stir again.
