The Chevron Championship, to be played in The Woodlands for the first time since its move...
Stacy Lewis, who grew up in The Woodlands, is one of nine former Chevron Championship winners in this year's 132-player field.Thursday's opening round of the first major of the year comes at a new venue. The Club at Carlton Woods has replaced Mission Hills as site of the Chevron Championship, one of the tour’s five majors.
Grace Kim, the tour’s most recent winner at last weekend’s Lotte Championship, is one of 13 rookies in a field that counts 32 players making their Chevron Championship debuts. “We always had a short season prior to when we were playing at Mission Hills,” Lewis said. “Some people only played one or two events . I like the move back a couple weeks, getting off the Masters, getting off Augusta National Women’s Am. I think it will help this championship out a lot.”
Based on their practice rounds, players said the Nicklaus Course, which will play around 6,800 yards on Bermuda grass for a par 72, is lengthy. Greens are sloped and can be tricky. There are 59 bunkers and nine water hazards.
