An 88-year-old man walking his dog earlier this month was struck and killed while crossing a York County street in a marked crosswalk, authorities said.
A 2017 Chevy Silverado hit John Smeltzer, of Hallam Borough, just before 5:30 p.m. May 3 while Smeltzer was crossing West Market Street from north to south in Hallam, according to the York County Coroner’s Office. The Silverado was making a left turn from South Lee Street onto West Market Street when it hit Smeltzer, Coroner Pamela Gay said.
Gay said Smeltzer was taken to WellSpan York Hospital and pronounced dead at 5 p.m. on Friday.
