45 N.J. public safety officials who died of COVID honored in procession, service

45 police officers, firefighters, and other public safety workers who died of COVID-19 were honored Wednesday with a procession up the Garden State Parkway. 100 emergency vehicles were expected to join the tribute which led to a church service.

“They responded professionally and courageously along with thousands of brave healthcare and other essential workers,” the New Jersey State PBA said ahead of the morning service. “Regretfully, many of our heroes paid the ultimate sacrifice. Because of the pandemic, many of them did not have the honor they deserved. They did not receive a proper tribute.
