Adam Seiko went outdoors to get shots up over the weekend, Keshad Johnson's monster block, and a rare week with men's and women's games at Viejas Arena
If you saw a guy shooting around Sunday on the outdoor basketball court across the street from the BLVD apartments near the San Diego State campus, if he was pretty good, if he was draining one 3-pointer after another after another, that was Adam Seiko.
After Seiko made his first seven shots behind the arc Wednesday night — five in his first four minutes on the floor — and finished with a career-high 25 points, coach Brian Dutcher joked that “I’m not sure if Seiko was sick or if he was at Club Med for three days, getting his legs fresh.”“Come on, now, he’s been here how long?” teammate Keshad Johnson said. “This is his home. The gym is his home. He’s in the JAM Center every day.
Dorius wisely rolled hard to the basket, and Funk hit him with a perfect bounce pass. The other three SDSU defenders were spaced on perimeter shooters, leaving the lane to Dorius. The Utah State coaches have been beseeching Dorius to be more aggressive offensively, to dunk more often and emphatically when he has a clear path to the basket. So he did.
It was a rare interaction between the two teams, a function of scheduling more than anything else. For years, the Mountain West adopted a mirror scheduling format, so if the men are hosting Utah State, the women are at Utah State. Their schedules were virtually identical except in opposite venues. Just as the men were returning from a road trip for a home game, the women would be heading out — ships passing in the night.
