The Coyotes nearly had the game within its clutches against the Rangers, but late power play goal sealed the deal as the Rangers won 3-2 on Sunday at Mullett Arena.
Coyotes head coach André Tourigny made the decision to go with Ingram over Friday's starter Karel Vejmelka as the starting goaltender, giving Ingram his third start this season. The 25-year-old proved himself with a 30-save win against Columbus Tuesday and has impressed since joining the Coyotes at the end of training camp on Oct. 10.
When the Coyotes struggled to find a rhythm offensively in the first period, Ingram kept his team in contention with 15 saves. Some of his best work came during the Rangers' first power play when he made four saves within a minute into the penalty kill. With both teams finding early success on the man advantage, it came down to the best power play unit winning.
“They were an unbelievable power play and to be honest, we were scared to death of them of their power play,” Tourigny said. “They have elite players and they make plays. In the first period, we got away with it. We made our goalie the best player on the PK. They gave a chance for those elite players to go on the power play and they will make good things happen.”Part of the success behind Crouse’s power play goal was the chemistry with rookies Guenther and Matias Maccelli.
