ICYMI: We've got some fresh new information on the all-new Volkswagen Amarok 👀
, both of which can carry a maximum of 1.0 tonne. Maximum towing capacity is 3.5 tonnes – identical to both the Musso and Hilux. The load bay has been designed so a euro pallet can be loaded sideways, with tie hooks present to lash down large items.
Under the bonnet, the new Amarok will share its 168bhp 2.0-litre, four cylinder diesel engine with the Ranger. A 237bhp 3.0-litre V6 will also be offered, as will a 298bhp 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, but there's no plug-in hybrid version. Design wise, the new Amarok's bonnet, LED headlamps, front wings and exterior door panels will differ from the Ranger's, while the tailgate is embossed with ‘Amarok’ to cement its identity. The only visual elements shared with the Ranger are the windscreen, roof, side windows, rear window, mirrors and door handles.
The interior of the new Amarok will be more comfort-orientated than the Ranger, with different seats, switchgear and trim. All models will be fitted as standard with a 8.0in digital driver’s display and 10.1.in infotainment system, and an optional 12.0in screen will be available.
Amarok pricing is expected to start from around £30,000 excluding VAT. This makes it more expensive than the Hilux, which starts from £24,988, but in line with theFor all the latest reviews, advice and new car deals, sign up to the What Car? newsletter
