The Lycoming County Board of Elections authorized the recount at the urging of conservative Republicans concerned about voting integrity.
WILLIAMSPORT – The just-completed hand recount of two Lycoming County races from the 2020 general election found that it differed from the electronic tabulation by 26 votes.Donald C. Peters, the chairman of the Lycoming County Republican Committee, called the outcome “a win for democracy.”in less than three days.
Libertarian candidate Jennifer Moore lost 12 and Green Party candidate Olivia Faison lost 6 in the recount. The county, which is heavily Republican, uses paper ballots that are fed into a scanner to be tabulated. He praised the county commissioners who make up the elections board for listening to the will of the people. He advocates a periodic audit beyond the 2 percent of the votes hand counted after each election.
After the state Department of State informed the county such a referendum was not allowed, focus shifted to a hand recount.voted to do the recount using county employees. Jeffrey J. Stroehmann, who describes himself as a former Patriot, said upon learning the results of the hand count the variances seem negligible.
