The robbery occurred at a Delta gas station on Washington Avenue in Bergenfield on the night of February 11, officials said. Two men, one of whom was carrying a handgun, approached the gas station attendant around 8 p.m. and demanded cash, officials said. The attendant was then struck in the head with the gun and the two men ran off with $3,000 in cash, prosecutors said.
Nixon Francisco-Colon, 34, of Bronx, New York, was arrested at Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday after his flight from Honduras arrived. Melvin R. Inoa, 25, was arrested at his Bronx residence the following day, authorities said. Both men are facing charges of first-degree armed robbery, third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and weapons offenses, authorities said.
Francisco-Colon is being held in Bergen County Jail and Inoa is in the custody of the New York City Police while he awaits extradition to New Jersey. Attorney information for the men was not immediately available.
