The fiery crash happened on State Highway 440 in Woodbridge, authorities said.
A 19-year-old driver died Monday afternoon after he slammed into the back of a truck that was parked on the shoulder of a Woodbridge highway, police said.
The truck was parked on the right shoulder of State Highway 440 north when a Honda Accord being driven by Joey Lopez, of Staten Island, New York, left the road, entered the shoulder area and hit it, according to a release from the New Jersey State Police. Both vehicles caught fire and Lopez died as a result of the crash, authorities said. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.
It was unclear what caused Lopez to leave the highway as the crash remained under investigation late Monday night, authorities said.
