The changes to Star Trek canon caused by the Kelvin Timeline allow J.J. Abrams' USS Enterprise to fight Starfleet enemies from the past and future.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Given that anything is possible in J.J. Abrams' Kelvin Timeline, there are various classic alien enemies that Chris Pine's Captain James T. Kirk and the USS Enterprise could face in Star Trek 4. The drastic changes made to the timeline by vengeful Romulan miner Nero have meant that the Kelvin Timeline movies needn't be slaves to established Star Trek canon.

Although the multiverse bubble appeared to have burst with the release of DC's critically panned The Flash, Q could certainly break the boundaries between Star Trek universes. A huge crossover movie pitting the J.J. Abrams Star Trek cast against another legendary TV crew could be just the thing to reignite interest in the Star Trek movie franchise.

7 Gary Mitchell Kirk's best friend Lt. Commander Gary Mitchell feels like an obvious choice for a Kelvin Timeline villain. Gary was given superhuman powers after inadvertently interacting with the Galactic Barrier. Becoming a higher being, Gary Mitchell no longer had the same regard for "lesser" life forms, causing Kirk to make a difficult decision.

4 DS9's Changelings Star Trek Into Darkness revealed that the destruction of Vulcan had inspired some Starfleet officers to explore ways to strengthen the organization and protect the Federation. This increased military aggression by the likes of Admiral Alexander Marcus could bring Starfleet to the attention of the Dominion much earlier.

2 The Borg Collective J.J. Abrams' Star Trek crew never faced the Borg but it's certainly possible for them to do so. Star Trek: Enterprise established that there was leftover Borg tech after Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the USS Enterprise-E averted a plot to change history. Star Trek: Picard season 2 may have left behind more Borg tech after the alternate reality Borg Queen was transported to 21st-century France.
