1 dead, 2 injured in multi-vehicle crash on Gulf Freeway, officials say
One person died and two others were injured in a collision involving three vehicles early Sunday, according to the Houston Police Department.
A Chevrolet Suburban had been traveling south on the Gulf Freeway around 2:30 a.m., when it hit a Chevrolet Equinox, causing both SUVs to spin out before they collided again for a second time, officers told On Scene reporters. A pickup also was struck by the Suburban after the initial crash with the Equinox.
The driver of the Equinox died in the crash, and the person in the passenger seat was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, officers said. A passenger in the Suburban also was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The drivers of the Suburban and the pickup were detained by police at the scene, but authorities did not provide additional information as to the reason.
South lanes of the Gulf Freeway at Beltway 8-South were closed following the wreck and they reopened around 8 a.m.,
